Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment Review: Does It Really Work?

Hair loss seems nearly as frequent in women as it is in men, whether it’s thinning hair, a receding hairline, or patches of missing hair. It just isn’t talked about as much because it’s typically not as aggressive as hair loss in men. Keranique is one brand that has made a name for itself in women’s hair loss with its Hair Regrowth Treatment spray. In this Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment review, find out if this spray can work for you.

Is Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment Right For You Up Front

Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment will work for many, but not for everyone. The active ingredient in Keranique’s spray, Minoxidil, treats those suffering from hair loss due to hormones or genetics. It will not work for women suffering from other health problems, like alopecia, chemotherapy, or thyroid disease.

This product must also be used consistently. If you are not using it twice a day every day, you will notice little change. It takes two to three months to see hair regrowth, so keep up with it for that amount of time before giving up.

How Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment Works

In my experience doing hair for the past ten years, most of my clients’ hair loss concerns came from needing to understand how hair growth works. So allow me to explain why you may be experiencing hair loss and how Keranique’s hair treatment helps.

What Causes Hair Loss in Women

Your hair grows out of follicles in your scalp, which are glands that provide nutrients through blood circulation to grow hair. When these follicles start receiving less blood flow, they can shrink and eventually stop producing hair.

The number one contributor to this loss of blood circulation to the hair follicles in women is hormones. This is why you mostly notice hair loss around pregnancy and menopause. Genetics are also a common contributor.

Other less common diseases cause hair loss, such as alopecia, thyroid disease, and Trichotillomania. Medications can cause hair loss as well. There are no over-the-counter cures for these types of hair loss, and they can only be diagnosed by a doctor.

You should also keep in mind that it is natural to lose some hair throughout the day. Your hair grows in cycles, eventually falling out and starting a new cycle. To give you an idea of what is normal, the average person loses 100 hairs a day, more or less. If you go longer periods between shampoos, it may seem like you’re losing a lot more hair.

Keranique’s Ingredients and What They Do

The active ingredient in Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment is Minoxidil. It is the only FDA-approved ingredient to treat hair loss in women. Many clinical studies have been done on Minoxidil, but Keranique has also done its own clinical trials. The results were that 59% of women saw minimal to moderate hair regrowth within six weeks of use.

Minoxidil is a topical solution that increases blood circulation. This helps return the nutrients your follicles lack to help enlarge the follicles and reproduce hair. Minoxidil does not work for all types of hair loss and is meant mainly for hormonal and hereditary hair loss.

The other ingredients inside the hair regrowth treatment are water and a couple of solvents to thin the solution. I love it when ingredient lists are short like this. Simple is always better.

How Long It Takes to See Results

Keranique claims you should see results within three months, which makes sense. The average person’s hair grows half an inch a month. It likely takes a bit for the Minoxidil to kick the hair follicles into action, and most people will only notice a difference once the new hair is a half inch or longer.

From reading multiple user reviews, most women notice hair regrowth sooner, at about six weeks. It is also important to note that Minoxidil will only work properly if you are religious about it. You need to use it twice a day, every day. It shouldn’t make much of a difference if you miss a dose here and there, but your hair follicles will revert to their natural loss if you miss multiple doses.

My Experience With Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment

I haven’t noticed any bald or thin patches in my hair, but my hair growth cycle is becoming shorter. I can tell because I have many more short pieces of hair and flyaways than I used to have. My hair is not damaged so I know it is not breakage. I will test the hair regrowth treatment around my front hairline, where I notice most of these short hairs.

What I Got

I decided to go with the one-time order instead of signing up for auto-ship. You can save about $3 a bottle if you sign up for auto-ship, but I noticed some reviews saying it caused an itchy scalp, and I have relatively sensitive skin.

The bottle is a 2-ounce size and is about a month’s supply. I like the long-stemmed applicator because it makes it easy to apply exactly where needed. The top also locks, making it super easy to travel with.

Applying The Spray

When applying the spray, you only need to put it on the affected areas. For me, that is just around my hairline, where my hair isn’t growing as long as usual. I shook the bottle thoroughly and applied the treatment spray directly after washing my hair with the Keranique Volumizing shampoo and conditioner.

The consistency is super watery, so the treatment started running down my head directly after spraying. After that initial spray, I only sprayed a small amount at a time and immediately rubbed it in with my fingertips. This worked much better, but spraying way too much is super easy. It would be easier to apply if the spray was thicker.

How It Felt After Blow Drying

I used to work at an Aveda salon where we used similar products on clients called Invati. One of the downsides of Invati was that it left a bit of residue on the hair after spraying it in. I was definitely interested to see if Keranique’s spray would do the same thing.

After my hair was blown dry, I could not feel the treatment spray on my scalp or hair at all. I also wanted to test the spray on my dry hair to see if it would mess up my hair, especially since nobody wants to restyle their hair twice a day when it needs to be applied.

I sprayed a small amount at the front of my hair and quickly rubbed it in. It still managed to drip down my hairline a bit, so the bottom of my hairline was wet. I could rub most of it until it was dry, but the bottom was still damp.

Even though it dampened my hair at the bottom, where I got too much solution, the spray dried without piecing out my hair or making it look greasy. However, my hair is pretty straight naturally. People with curly or frizzy hair may need to restyle their roots when it gets too saturated.

Results Over The Next Few Days

I had no side effects using the Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment over the next few days. Some women complained of it causing an itchy scalp, which I didn’t experience anywhere I used the spray. However, I was using Keranique shampoo and conditioner simultaneously, and that did cause my scalp to become irritated.

It will likely take a few more weeks of use before I can personally say this spray works. I haven’t noticed anything in the short time I’ve used it. But Keranique does state that it can take up to three months for you to notice a change. We’ll see if I can remember to keep up with it twice a day, every day. I’m not great at remembering these kinds of things.

Keranique FAQ’s

Question: What are the side effects of using Keranique?

Answer: Since Keranique slightly affects blood flow, there may be side effects, such as scalp irritation and redness. If you notice more severe side effects, such as swelling in your hands or feet, dizziness, unexplained weight gain, rapid heartbeat, or chest pain, stop use immediately and ask your doctor. You should also not use this product if you are pregnant.

Question: What is the FDA-approved ingredient in Keranique?

Answer: The FDA-approved ingredient in Keranique is Minoxidil. This ingredient works for both men and women and promotes hair growth by increasing blood flow to your follicles and helping the follicles grow longer. Minoxidil will only work for those suffering from genetic hair loss or hair loss due to hormones.

Question: What happens to your hair when you stop using Keranique?

Answer: Your hair will revert to its natural growth cycle. You will notice your hair thinning a few months after you stop using Keranique. You may cut back usage from twice a day to once or every other day when you see desired results. But you can not stop using Keranique if you want to keep the results.

Does Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment Work?

keranique hair regrowth minoxidil does it work

As long as you remember to apply the spray twice a day for two to three months, Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment can work well. If the spray doesn’t work for you and you use it consistently, there may be a different underlying issue other than hormones or genetics causing hair loss.

If you are still rapidly losing hair after using this spray for three months, I recommend consulting a doctor. It could signify something more serious going on with your health. That’s not to say it will work for everyone who doesn’t have an underlying health condition, though.

Hair loss is unique to each person, and one treatment may not work for everyone. While the Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment will work for most women, it will not work for every woman. Luckily, Keranique has a 120-day money-back guarantee, so there is no risk in trying it out for yourself.
