Ella Bella 6-in-1 Air Styler Review

Ella Bella 6-in-1 Air Styler Review

There’s never a time when I’m not doing something with my hair, whether it’s trying a new color (or several), different layering techniques, or styles. What can I say? It’s a way to explore my creativity.

I was especially curious about the 6-in-1 air styler from Ella Bella because it’s been getting a lot of hype for its amazing results. After trying it myself and using every tool in the kit, I understand it now, and the internet praise is more than earned.

What To Know About The Ella Bella Air Styler

  • The Ella Bella 6-in-1 is an interchangeable air styling unit that includes a hair dryer, detangling/straightening brush, (60mm) volumizing brush, (32mm) round brush, and two (32mm) curling wands for the left and right side of your head.
  • Designed to add shine while reducing frizz thanks to negative ion technology, the multistyling kit features three temperature settings (cool, warm, hot) and two air speeds (low and high).
  • Curls are effortless with the continuous air flow that auto-wraps hair sections around the barrel, but that does take a little practice at first.
  • The entire air styling system fits into a compact hard-shell case that keeps everything organized at home and safe from movement during travel.
  • There is no diffuser or concentrator nozzle with the hair dryer attachment.

I’m in love with what the Ella Bella multistyler does for my hair and how quickly it gives me salon-like results. I’ll tell you everything there is to know about my experience using the 6-in-1, including tips for using the air curler, what each tool does (alone and together with others), along with photos, and of course, all the pros and cons to consider before you buy.

My Experience Using The 6-in-1 Air Styler From Ella Bella

I don’t tend to use many heat styling tools on my hair because I put it through the wringer, as it were, with bleaching, highlighting, and coloring on a pretty regular basis. That said, Ella Bella’s products are designed to minimize heat damage in general, and that holds true for the 6-in-1, as well.

When it arrived and I unboxed it, I was immediately struck by how pretty it is, from the exterior of the case to the smartly-constructed interior that has a spot cut out for every piece included with the kit. And that’s not even getting to the style of the tools themselves.

I’m a sucker for rose gold (even my sunglasses are rosy gold), but the combination with black is beyond lux.

The 6-in-1 includes the base unit, along with attachments for drying, detangling/straightening, volumizing, brush-curling, and iron-curling.

Ella Bella 6-in-1 Air

I could not wait to try it out, but I took the time to at least read through the instructions beforehand so I knew what I was doing. Yes, most of us have likely used all of the various tools included in the 6-in-1, but the curling irons, especially, were new to me.

I’d never used a curling iron that didn’t have a clamp, and since my hair is pretty long, that was the only part that really had a learning curve. (Although I’ll detail the steps later on to walk you through it if it’s new to you, too!)

My natural hair is what I’d consider medium-thick, and as I’ve gotten older (and more silver hairs have started springing up…), the texture has become somewhat coarse. It waves in its own “I do what I want” kind of pattern, which I’m sure many women can relate to.

But no matter what tool I used on my hair, the Ella Bella 6-in-1 was effective, and I’ll take you through each tool separately.

It’s really easy to swap the tools out, thanks to the locking ring located at the top of the base unit. Each tool has a small arrow that you line up with the “unlock” icon when you attach it, and then you turn that ring to the “locked” position to hold it in place. To remove, turn the ring back to unlock it and pull the attachment off. Super simple.

Hair Dryer

For such a small hair dryer, it really packs a punch and works pretty quickly, even on my very porous hair. I admit, the bulk of my drying time is typically focused on my ends because they tend to hold water like a sponge.

The Ella Bella dryer attachment is not especially loud during use, which I appreciate, and it’s comfortable to wield. It’s not heavy or imbalanced, and I think even those with hand mobility issues would be able to use this dryer with no problem.

For best results with the 6-in-1, you want to start with wet hair, drying it to a state where it’s nearly completely dry. This basically creates a fresh “canvas” to work from, whether you’re going to wear it straight, curly, or somewhere in between.

The only thing really missing here is a diffuser for my curly girls. If you’re someone with naturally curly hair and you typically use a diffuser to preserve your curl pattern, you won’t find that with the 6-in-1 from Ella Bella.

Detangling & Straightening Brush

After my hair was almost dried, I brushed it using the detangling brush attachment, which removes tangles but also smoothes and basically straightens the hair with FAR less heat compared to traditional straightening irons.

My hair has a somewhat unpredictable wave pattern naturally, but it was nearly poker-straight by the time I was done with the detangling brush.

I wasn’t expecting that look, but it definitely pairs beautifully with the volumizer brush when you’re looking to rock a straight (but full and luscious) finished style.

Oval Volumizer Brush

This is the larger brush included with the set, designed to create a perfect blowout in minutes, and let me tell you… boy, does it do its job!

I am not one for wearing my hair straight, but the volumizing tool has changed my mind about that. I could not get over the way my hair looked after using it. The volumizer brush created a fullness I didn’t realize was even possible.

It might be my hair’s length, but I noticed a lot of “pull” involved with this one as I was working it through my hair. I don’t know how wise that is for daily use, particularly if you’re someone who has thin (or thinning) hair that falls out easily.

The end result was simply gorgeous, but I’ll likely reserve that styling tool for special occasions just to reduce the likelihood of hair loss.

Round Brush

When you’re looking for soft curls and body, the smaller round brush is ideal. I knew I’d want to try it on my fringe because I love a flowy “swoop” to my face-framing layers.

(I’m a child of the 70s, through and through.)

That said, I had a scary experience with a round brush many years ago, before I knew what I was doing. The thing basically tangled in my hair and tried to keep it as a messy pet; I could NOT get it out for several looooong minutes and thought I was going to have to cut my hair to get free from its clutches. (Luckily, and after shedding several tears, I managed to remove the brush from my hair with minimal damage, but the fear of a round brush has always remained…)

So I normally style my bangs with a large velcro roller, placing it in my hair when it’s damp and rolling it backward toward the crown. I exist in my house for an hour or two, looking like a Snork until it’s time to take the curler out, while my family makes fun of me every chance they get.

I feel a little bad, taking that opportunity away from them, but the Ella Bella round brush is going to replace that velcro roller for good. It did in ten seconds what it takes my roller at least an hour to do.

My bangs were bangin’ without even having to try. And no tangles!

Curling Wands (Left and Right)

Technically counting as two in the 6-in-1 name, the curling wands are an air curling system that automatically curls your hair backward (away from your face) on each side. One curling wand rotates clockwise, while the other rotates counterclockwise.

I was a little nervous about using this at first because I’d never used an air curler before. I had a (probably unfounded) illogical fear of getting my hair sucked into something… apparently I’ve watched one too many horror movies. If you’ve struggled with similar concerns, rest assured that at no point can your hair be pulled inside the wand; it will only wrap around.

How to use the Ella Bella air curler:

  1. Hold the section of hair at about the midpoint of its total length, leaving the ends hanging
  2. Place the curling wand sort of diagonally against the hanging ends, just behind them, so the air will “catch them” and wrap the hair backward around the wand
  3. Once the ends wrap around the base of the curling iron, you can continue the motion by rolling the iron the rest of the way toward your head
  4. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds, depending on your hair’s texture, thickness, and needs
  5. For best results, while the wand is in place, change the temperature to “cool” for a few seconds to set it before you release
  6. To remove the wand and release the curl, simply pull the wand downward, and the curl will slide right off

In my experience, the air curler works best on the higher air setting, as there’s more of a current to pull hair around the wand completely.

I really appreciate the ease of use with these, as you don’t really have to “think” about how to hold the curling iron to get the curl you want; it just does it.

Ella Bella 6-in-1 Air Styler Pros and Cons

As much as I love the 6-in-1 multistyler from Ella Bella, it’s not entirely perfect for every hair situation.

Ella Bella Pros

  • As an “all-in-one” solution, it has almost everything you need for salon-level styling at home or on the go, and the air flow is strong, even on the low setting.
  • The tools are designed to style your hair with minimal heat damage while fighting frizz every step of the way.
  • It provides temperature control (cool, warm, hot) to cater to your needs based on the tool you’re using and your hair’s texture.
  • The base unit does make noise, but it’s not especially loud compared to other hair dryers. (Using my NIOSH sound level meter, it registers 81 dB on low and 84 dB on high, with the measurements taken from about 6” away from the unit.)
  • It includes a pretty hard-shell protective case for storage at home or travel.

Ella Bella Cons

  • There is no diffuser attachment or concentrator nozzles included with the hair dryer in the 6-in-1; however, those are available with the standalone ionic hair dryer.
  • When using multiple hot styling tools and switching them out, the unit can be hot to the touch (including the locking ring that holds the attachments in place).
  • As of this writing, Ella Bella only delivers within the United States.

Closing Thoughts

The Ella Bella 6-in-1 really surprised me, I’m not gonna lie. I think it’s ideal for anyone who uses a lot of different heat-styling tools because it’s got almost everything you need, right there in one convenient (and gorgeous) package.

Whether you love to wear your hair straight and want to volumize it, or you prefer to add waves or curls to your hair, this multistyling kit has got you covered. Beautifully.
