If you’ve ever found yourself sick of drug store brand hair products that don’t seem to be cutting it, or if you’ve noticed an uncomfortable amount of hair shedding and you’re starting to feel a little thin on top, it’s possible, like me, you have considered Zenagen.
I first came across Zenagen during my search for a solution to my husband’s hair thinning. As a cosmetologist, and loving wife, I was looking for more than a fancy soap. After doing hours of research and comparing multiple brands, I was impressed with all of the love it was getting from not only the consumers, but other hairstylists as well. I was so encouraged by the positivity I decided to order the full Revolve Men’s Trio Kit, and have been using it ever since.
What Makes Zenagen Different?

So what makes Zenagen more than just a shampoo and conditioner? While researching, I loved to read the origin stories of the products, and Zenagen stood out to me – The founder, Jared Reynolds, was a medical student who became frustrated with the lack of effective products available after he started to lose his hair — this led him on a journey to creating science backed products with high quality ingredients and advanced delivery methods. It’s one thing to create a product to solve a problem, and another to create a product to solve your problem. I personally feel it adds another level of commitment to finding a real solution.
I needed something that combined a salon quality product with clinical effectiveness, and Zenagen does just that. Instead of relying on harsh chemicals or hormonal manipulation, Zenagen uses chemistry mixed with natural plant-based ingredients to create a healthy hair environment.
After my husband had tried the Revolve product I got really interested in what else Zenagen had to offer, so today I wanted to share their three main shampoo and conditioner lines: Revolve, Evolve, and Eclipse.
Revolve
The “Revolve” line specifically targets thinning hair, and they have unique products for both men and women. It’s made with ingredients like green tea extract and nourishing botanical complexes which are intentionally chosen to reduce breakage and slow the conversion of testosterone into a hormone called DHT, which is the underlying cause of hair loss in many men and women.
Revolve works because it was designed with intention — every ingredient serves a purpose. DHT-targeting botanicals like saw palmetto and green tea help slow excessive shedding, while ingredients such as alpine willowherb and brahmi support stronger, healthier strands. Added botanical extracts like lavender and aloe leaf juice sooth the scalp and keep your hair follicles happy.
Before starting to use this product, my husband had pretty low expectations — neither of us believed in a magic hair potion that will grow hair overnight. While I still don’t, we were pleasantly surprised when, within the first one to two weeks, his hair looked visibly thicker. Now logically I know he didn’t grow more hair that quickly, but the hair he did have had more volume and became easier to style. He’s continued to use it for multiple months now, and we are continually impressed by the progress his hair has made — he’s noticed new growth, and less shedding.

Revolve Key Features
- Purpose: To reduce shedding and add visible thickness for an overall fuller appearance to your hair.
- Best for: Anyone who struggles with mild to moderate hair thinning and wants a natural alternative to medication or a supporting adjunct to medication.
- Key ingredients: Green tea, aloe Juice, brahmi, red clover, lavender, saw palmetto, chamomile, alpine willowherb.
- Price: $36 to $225 depending on the size. You can save on either the Trio $128 (what I got for my husband) 6.75 oz shampoo and conditioner plus hair serum or the Duo: 16oz shampoo and conditioner for $190.
Evolve
If you have dry or damaged hair and find it difficult to grow any length, Evolve is the way to go. It’s designed to help heal the hair from root to end by repairing damage to your hair cuticle and helping support healthier new growth by providing the scalp with essential nutrients such as amino acids and hydrolyzed proteins.
Why are these ingredients important? Amino acids are essential building material for keratin, and keratin accounts for 90% of the make up of your hair. Hydrolyzed proteins are added as an advanced delivery method for the amino acids, taking them to the internal structure of the hair.
What impressed me about Evolve was not only the science based formula, but the hundreds of positive reviews from real people whose hair has seen drastic improvements from Evolve. I personally put my hair through a lot, so I am constantly fighting breakage, and I have loved what Evolve has done to improve my hair.
So what was originally a search for my husband’s hair issue became a solution for my own hair as well!

Evolve Key Features:
- Purpose: To repair and strengthen hair to prevent breakage and grow length
- Best for: Anyone who struggles with dry, damaged, or brittle hair and needs help to grow or maintain length.
- Key ingredients: Alpine willowherb, aloe leaf juice, brahmi, red clover, lavender, ginger root, chamomile.
- Price: $36 to $250 depending on size. You can save on the Duo: $190 for 16oz or $122 for the Trio: 6.75oz plus their repair leave-in-conditioner.
Eclipse
The main focus of Eclipse is to rejuvenate hair that is losing pigment. It does this by nurturing the scalp with antioxidants and peptides, which support the hair’s natural pigment production — overall giving your hair a more youthful appearance.
I personally haven’t had the opportunity to try this one out, but based on my experience with their other products, I have high expectations about its performance. In addition to that, it has also received high ratings online from consumers who love the difference they have seen in their hair not only in its color, but over all health.

Eclipse Key Features
- Purpose: To combat pigment loss and rejuvenate hair.
- Best for: Anyone with greying or dull hair.
- Key ingredients: Aloe leaf juice, lavender, grapeseed extract, red clover.
The Ingredients
Now, I realize this may not pique everyone’s interest, but I feel in order to really get the “why” behind Zenagen, it helps to understand some of the science behind the ingredients that are found in their products. Here are just a few of my favorites:
- Green tea extract – Simply put, it’s a natural anti-inflammatory, it reduces DHT, and it stimulates new growth.
- Saw Palmetto – Also widely known for its ability to reduce the conversion of testosterone to DHI.
- Brahmi (waterhyssop) – Helps improve blood circulation, stimulates the hair follicle, and with regular use, it can decrease the aging of your hair follicles which in turn reduces greying.
- Aloe Leaf Juice – Provides gentle moisture that isn’t going to weigh down your hair.
One important thing to note:
Zenagen doesn’t contain minoxidil or pharmaceutical active ingredients. It is a natural way to support the hair you currently have and to encourage less shedding and new growth by optimizing the growth conditions of the scalp. If you’re looking for medication for hair loss, you will want to contact your dermatologist.

Drawbacks
While I do love Zenagen, no product is perfect. So here are a few drawbacks I noticed.
- Cost: Zenagen, no matter which product you choose, is more of an investment than your average drugstore haircare. Not absurdly crazy expensive, but definitely not Walmart brand 3-in-one level.
- The 5 minutes: Each of these shampoos are only effective if you follow the instructions and let them sit. If you’re used to rushing in the morning like me, 5 minutes can feel like an eternity. It’s important that you only purchase these products if you’re willing to commit to the marinate.
- Commitment: If you’re looking for no commitment, overnight results, unfortunately that type of solution has not been invented yet. For now, to get the best results you have to commit to using this product 2-3 times a week.
Alternatives
If Zenagen doesn’t seem like the right fit for you, here are a few other great options to consider.
Nioxin
Nioxin is a common brand for men with thinning hair. Similar to Zenagen, their focus is to improve overall scalp health and they offer multiple options to choose from depending on your level of thinning. They use active ingredients such as niacinamide, caffeine, and lauric acid, to stimulate new hair growth. Overall it’s not a bad option, but reviews suggest it can dry out your hair.
Olaplex
Olaplex is a popular salon brand that is great for combating damaged hair prone to breakage. It works on a molecular level to repair damaged bonds and to strengthen your hair. Similar to Zenagen Evolve, it can be effective if you struggle to grow or maintain length, but it does not have the same natural botanicals for scalp health.
Vegamour
Vegamour’s mission is very similar to Zenagen in their approach to healing the scalp for overall better hair production. They focus on ingredients that will increase the growth cycle of each hair follicle and nourish the scalp. I really liked this option as well, but based on my research, the results tend to be slower than Zenagen.

Final Thoughts: “Is It Worth It?”
I get it, life is expensive, and buying salon grade products can feel like an investment. So I hope it helps to know that for me, Zenagen has absolutely earned every bit of their positive reputation. If you’re still skeptical, don’t worry, they have a 90 day money back guarantee. After three months of consistent use I am personally so happy with the results my husband and I have experienced, and feel that it was worth every cent.
