Ella Bella Ionic Hair Dryer Review

Ella Bella Ionic Hair Dryer Review

Due to being chronically late, I’m a huge fan of anything that helps me get out the door faster. And nothing comes in clutch more often than a good hair dryer.

I tried Ella Bella’s Ionic Hair Dryer to see if it could make this common task even easier, even faster, even less damaging, and even, dare I say it…. Less noisy?

Here’s what I thought.

TLDR

The Ella Bella Ionic Hair Dryer is compact, lightweight, and stylish, with fast drying power and less noise than most dryers I’ve tried. It comes with customizable heat and airflow settings, three magnetic attachments, and negative ionic tech that leaves hair smooth and frizz-free without extra damage. I did experience a weird little power hiccup, but it didn’t affect overall performance, and I bet it was a one-off thing. At around $150, it’s a solid alternative to luxury dryers like the Dyson, without the luxury price tag.

Pros: What I Loved About the Ella Bella Hair Dryer

Ella Bella Ionic Hair Dryer Review

There was a lot to love about this dryer! It’s compact, lightweight, and stylish. Easy to store and surprisingly cute on the counter. It offers adjustable heat and airflow settings, plus a cold shot button, making it great whether you’re in a rush or trying to minimize heat damage.

With three attachments, lower noise level, and fast drying even on medium heat, it’s a great option that doesn’t leave your hair feeling fried.

Here are some of my favorite things about it:

  • Super compact and lightweight, even with the diffuser attachment, I can use this easily, and it takes up no space in my kitchen cabinet.
  • Sleek design. It’s just kinda cute!
  • Different settings for both temperature and air strength makes it great to blast on high when I’m in a rush or keep it on a low setting to reduce heat damage. Plus, there’s a cold air button you can press for a quick blast of cold air (which is a great last step to lock in curls, if you’re using a low-heat or heatless method)
  • Three attachments for different needs
  • My hair didn’t feel noticeably more damaged after drying
  • Not crazy noisy. It is a hair dryer, so it’s not whisper quiet, but it doesn’t sound like a leafblower like some hair dryers.
  • Dried my hair in 5 minutes on the medium setting. Due to my personal hair damage, I never use high heat, so I’m impressed by how quickly this one got me out the door.

Cons: What Could Use Some Work

There are far more pros than cons here, but there are a few things I need to mention about this otherwise great hair dryer. I did run into a small issue with the power. It needed a few presses of the “Reset” to get going, but that seemed like a one-off, not a dealbreaker. While it’s a bit over my usual $35 budget, it’s still a great value compared to high-end models like the $400 Dyson.

Here’s more details on that:

  • There was a weird issue with the power. I had to press the “Reset” button a few times. I’m sure this is a one-off issue, as I have multiple other Ella Bella products and none of them have had this issue, but I almost thought it didn’t work at all. Again, not a real problem.
  • It’s more than $35, which is often my budget for these kinds of appliances. But it’s much more affordable than other similar options (looking at you, $400 Dyson hair dryer.)
  • I bet there’s a hair dryer out there that’s quieter, but 5 minutes of noise is a small price to pay.

Ease of Use

Not that a hair dryer is an advanced piece of technology that’s difficult to use, but I physically have fought with some hair dryers that are heavy, large, or have weird, indecipherable buttons.

None of these things was an issue with this particular dryer. Besides my initial power concern, you just turn the thing on and set it how you want. There are just a few buttons, and it’s very clear what their purpose is. You just have to press and hold the power button for a few seconds to get it to start up.

The device itself is very lightweight and compact. It easily fits in my hand, and my arm doesn’t get tired using it. Granted, I held it for 5 minutes, but I’ve never used a dryer quite this light and small, but with a ton of power, too.

The magnetic nozzle attachments have strong magnets, making it easy to switch between them without worrying about them falling off in the middle of the drying process.

Attachments

There are 3 magnetic attachments that come with the dryer, each for different uses and hair types.

  • Small concentrator nozzle- The smallest one, best for precise styling and smoothing. Use on straighter or thinner hair, or for use with a round brush.
  • Larger flat nozzle- Best for fast drying straight or lightly wavy hair.
  • Diffuser nozzle- Best for use on low heat, on curly or wavy hair for diffused heat all over your hair.

For this review, I tried the larger flat nozzle because I was in a rush and have tragically straight and flat hair. It let me dry huge sections of my hair almost immediately. I’ll probably use the diffuser in the future when I have more time and want to do less damage to my hair.

Hair Type Compatibility

The great thing about how versatile this hair dryer is that it makes it suitable for every hair type.

It has three temperature and air pressure level settings as well as three different detachable nozzles, so it’s just a matter of finding the combo that’s best for your hair texture and style.

Want a sleek, smooth style? Or have straight hair? Use the concentrated nozzles to dry, then follow up with a round brush to style.

Have wavy or curly hair? Use the diffuser nozzle on low heat to enhance curl pattern and reduce frizz.

Noise Level

The noise level is pretty quiet! I’ve used some hair dryers that sound like a leaf blower, and I’m one of those noise-sensitive people who become irate and overstimulated easily by loud noises.

This did not trigger my fight or flight. They actually use noise-reduction technology that I think works pretty effectively, and my ears truly thank them for that.

As you can imagine, it’s louder at higher speeds and quieter at low ones, but none of these levels are going to grate on your nerves.

Price

Now for the biggest pro or con, depending on how much you usually spend on pieces like this.

Before now, I was generally a person who used a hair dryer so rarely that I didn’t know if I could justify spending more than, like, $50 on a hair dryer. But after doing some research into how to save my poor, fried hair, I found out that low, diffused heat is actually better for your hair than letting it air dry in some circumstances. Apparently, your hair is most prone to damage when it’s wet, so the sooner it gets dry, the better.

With this in mind, an Actually Good Hair Dryer seemed like a worthy investment. And this one is the perfect matchup of high quality and reasonable price.

At $159.97, it gives you the luxury experience without the luxury price tag. And just check the reviews, plenty of folks online agree with me on this.

Final Thoughts: Should You Buy It?

At the end of the day, I think she’s worth it. This hair dryer doesn’t leave hair frizzy, it’s sleek, compact, and lightweight, and it has so many customizable options that make it perfect for any hair texture and style. At a reasonable price point without compromising on quality, I think it’s worth a look if you’re in the market for a new hair dryer.
