The Best Salon Scheduling Apps for Small Teams and Solo Stylists

The Best Salon Scheduling Apps for Small Teams and Solo Stylists

For years, I struggled to find the best salon scheduling app for my needs. I hated bouncing between keeping track of client notes in a Google doc, handling payments on Square, and booking with Acuity.  So I started looking for an app that could bring everything together in one place without breaking the bank.

Here’s what I found.

Best for All-in-One Management: Boulevard

Price: $158/month for its Essentials plan

Boulevard

Features:

  • Calendars
  • POS
  • Online booking
  • Custom forms
  • Integrated retail management
  • Automated email marketing
  • Actionable reporting
  • Secure client profiles + SOAP notes

Boulevard was developed by salon insiders who wanted to solve their real-world frustrations in an all-in-one tool. It’s purpose-built for the beauty industry and equipped with an intuitive, modern interface that lets you manage inventory, reporting, marketing, and scheduling.

One of my favorite features is its smart scheduling capability, which automatically populates multiple services in the same appointment in the optimal order. For example, if someone books a facial, a massage, and a manicure, it will automatically populate the facial after the massage and the manicure after the facial.

Boulevard’s client profiles are also some of the best I’ve ever seen — very robust and easily accessible no matter where you are in the software. If I click on a client’s name, their profile pops up in the bottom-right corner, and it includes anything and everything I could possibly need to know: custom forms, any text reminders or message history, saved payment methods, memberships or packages, gift cards, photos, and so on.

With access to a team of onboarding specialists and excellent live support, this is my top pick for the best all-around salon management software.

Pros:

  • Smart scheduling organizes multiple same-appointment services in the correct order
  • A self-booking overlay that connects to social media or your website without redirecting the user off-site
  • An excellent, intuitive user interface
  • Built by salon professionals, for salon professionals

Cons:

  • The Essentials tier is missing valuable marketing features present in the more expensive plans

Best for Mobile Accessibility: Mangomint

Price: $165/month for teams of 2–10

Mangomint

Features:

  • Calendars
  • POS
  • Online booking
  • Forms and charts
  • Marketing
  • Retail and inventory
  • Memberships and packages
  • Virtual waiting room
  • Multi-location support

Mangomint is a comprehensive salon management solution that includes stand-out features like express booking, SMS checkout, and a virtual waiting room. It’s very mobile-focused, and this extends to your clientele as well — the platform will text links to new clients to smartphone-optimized sites where they can review their personal details, add a credit card, accept cancellation policies, upload photos, and submit upfront payments.

However, Mangomint is not meant for independent professionals. In fact, when you try to sign up or book a demo, if you indicate you are a solo stylist, it will lead you to a page saying they aren’t a good fit for you. It’s a much better fit for small teams — even offering robust support for multiple locations.

Pros:

  • A gamified layout that’s ideal for small teams who work from their phones
  • Express booking functions make it easy to reduce cancellations
  • Virtual waiting room to help fill openings/cancellations last-minute

Cons:

  • Not ideal for solo stylists

Best for Marketplaces and Online Stores: Vagaro

Price: $23.99/month for solo stylists; +$10/person/month for additional users

Vagaro

Features:

  • Calendars
  • POS
  • Payroll
  • Forms
  • Marketplace
  • Online store
  • Buy now, pay later
  • Live stream
  • Design services

Vagaro stands out with a marketplace where you can list your services and market last-minute deals and daily promos. It’s also one of the most affordable options on this list, right behind Fresha, and it offers à la carte pricing that lets you pick and choose the services you need most (in addition to basic scheduling).

Vagaro scales by the number of employees you have, increasing by $10 per month for every additional employee. If you have multiple locations, you’ll need to switch to its Enterprise plan.

Pros:

  • Includes buy now, pay later options with Affirm, so customers can book services and spread out their payments
  • Its marketplace can serve as a useful marketing tool

Cons:

  • Many services will come with extra fees
  • Support for multiple locations will come with enterprise-level custom prices

Best for Business Growth: GlossGenius

Price: Differs, but around $24/month for basics, $48 for small teams, and $148 for growing teams

glossgenius

Features:

  • Calendars
  • POS
  • Payroll
  • Forms
  • Inventory management
  • AI tools
  • Waitlist functions
  • Memberships and packages
  • Goal setting
  • Marketplace
  • Online store
  • Buy now, pay later
  • Live stream
  • Design services

GlossGenius is a modern salon management software with extra support for common concerns like no-shows and cancellations.

Its online booking function makes it easy to organize client notes, see whether a client cancels or no-shows, charge cancellation fees, and fill schedules automatically by creating wait lists. So each time someone cancels, clients who have later slots can reschedule for an earlier time.

Between this and its support for multiple providers (including buy now, pay later options), GlossGenius is geared toward supporting business growth above all else, especially if you have clients who might be more inclined to make larger purchases if they can spread out the cost over several months.

Of additional note here is how the platform builds in tools for motivation and goal-setting. GlossGenius prompts you to set up your goals, and then it monitors how close you are to achieving them — celebrating with you when you reach them.

Pros:

  • Includes buy now, pay later options with Affirm, Afterpay, and Klarna
  • Good AI tools for marketing campaigns

Cons:

  • Expensive if you want customization for small teams

Best for Budgets: Fresha

Price: $19.95/month for solo stylists; teams are $14.95/user/month

fresha website

Features:

  • Calendars
  • POS
  • Online booking
  • Marketplace
  • Upfront payments
  • Reports

Fresha is one of the most affordable salon scheduling apps — especially for solo stylists. It even used to have a free plan that went away in 2025, but the cheapest plan here is still extremely affordable. Of course, this low price means fewer features, limited integrations, and fewer resources for client management.

Fresha makes it easy to instantly book appointments through its international marketplace, so if you are outside of the U.S. or Canada, this is an excellent option.

Pros:

  • Fresha’s marketplace can be a good marketing tool

Cons:

  • All plans come with additional online payment fees per transaction
  • Fresha’s marketplace has high commissions on new customer bookings from the marketplace

Choosing the Best Salon Scheduling Apps for Small Teams and Solo Stylists

The best salon scheduling app will, of course, come down to your specific needs. However, I particularly like Fresha for newer stylists who don’t need anything fancy, GlossGenius for its booking functionalities and gamification, and especially Boulevard’s all-in-one approach that has everything you could hope to see in a salon management software.
